( CHAPTER 41 ) - { THE PRIEST OF SANTA MARIA } [ PT. 7 ]

( CHAPTER  41 ) - THE PRIEST OF SANTA MARIA - { PT.  7 } - She walked with haste as if Satan's bloodhounds were snapping at her heels and the burden of the world's fate was on her shoulders. What-ever choice she made she stood to lose something--if she had not already. She flagged down a taxi and requested the driver take her to the Colosseum. The journey was tense. Angelica's hands clutched around her bump in a reassuring embrace. The driver, a short wispy man, made constant glances at her through the rear-view mirror. She ignored him by turning her attention to the historical sights on the way. Sei una bella donna, he said Molto bella. She forced a smile Grazie. Then she turned back to the window. Twenty minutes later, the taxi arrived at the Colosseum. Angelica thanked the driver and paid him. He left her standing by the entrance, looking lost amongst the hordes to tourists eager to see the most famous landmark in Roman. A tap on her shoulder forced her to spin round. Don Primo's steely, narrowed eyes sent a momentary shudder through her. He greeted her with a mocking grin. She looked into his eyes coldly. You will never find peace in this. You'll have nothing but regret and guilt that will taste like bile on your tongue, and all that money is as cursed as Judas's thirty pieces of silver.                              _______________________________________________________
