[ THE PRIEST OF SANTA MARIA ] - ( CHAPTER 40 ) - { PT. 4 }

 { PT.  4 } - You can't tell from this vantage point, but the building practically connect from this roof. There is a gap of about two feer between our roof and the roof garden of their apartment, on the other side. We cross over all the time. Just not in the pitch dark. If you can do it, I can do it, replied Angelica. Good, just follow Frya's lead, said Kurush. Frya climbed onto the stone balustrade and hauled herself onto the rooftop. There, she sat down, easing her way horizontally until she was mid-way across the roof before making a controlled slide down the sloping tiles to reach the two-foot gap. Lifting herself into a standing position, she leapt across, landing with the elegance of a ballerina onto the roof garden next door. The cold stone wall between Angelica's thighs sent shivers through her body. She stared down at the fathomless drop to her left. Don't look down, said Kurush, gently gripping her waist. It'll be okay. I'm here for you. He pulled her up from her waist, moving his hands to the tops of her thighs, and hoisting her up. Angelica took some of the weight, propelling herself up and onto the roof. She remained captivated by the starry sky, which seemed to close in on her, spinning in a whirlpool as it dived towards her. Her body went limp and her foot slipped on the sloping tiles. Kurush caught her and eased her down. Are you okay? We shouldn't have left Christiano behind.                                                                    ________________________________________________________
